Using Leap Cards on our Buses
TFI Leap Cards are accepted for travel on Matthews commuter services and it’s a convenient way to pay for travel, no matter what route you are travelling on.
We accept Adult, Child, Young Adult and Student Leap Cards. Simply make sure that your card has enough travel credit before boarding, then tell the driver where you are travelling and which ticket you need.
Adult single journeys start from €7.00, while Young Adult and Student single fares start from €3.50. Child single journeys start from €3.50.
How to Use a Leap Card on the Bus
Using your Leap Card on a Matthews bus is straightforward:
- Top up your Leap Card before travelling.
- When you board, tell the driver your destination and the ticket you would like to purchase.
- Present your Leap Card to the driver.
- The correct fare will be deducted from your card’s balance.
- Take your ticket and settle in for the journey.

Young Adult and Student Leap Card Fares
Young Adult and Student Leap Cards make regular travel more affordable, with eligible passengers receiving 50% off standard adult public transport fares.
Young Adult Leap Cards are available to people aged 19 to 25. Student Leap Cards are available to qualifying full-time students aged 16 to 18 or 26 and over.
How to Top Up Your Leap Card
You can add travel credit to your Leap Card using the Leap Top-Up App or at participating Leap Card agents. The app also allows you to check your balance and view recent transactions.
